Life is hard for the elderly folk in Ukraine. With little or no money, pensions not being paid, and medical care very expensive and often impossible to reach from remote villages, the older generation have to work hard to survive. Growing their own food is essential, so a good harvest is always a blessing and everything is preserved to last through the harsh winter months. Hope Now has several projects to help the elderly.
Living alone and often in poverty can be so depressing. To help alleviate this, Hope Now organises an “English” Christmas Lunch for about 150 lonely people. A good meal, gifts, games and a Christmas message brings back the smiles on their faces.
Food and Clothing
With the devaluation of the Ukrainian currency, the cost of clothes and imported
food stuffs has escalated. Hope Now helps the most needy by giving out food packages
and taking clothes from the UK.
Ladies with nowhere to turn find respite in the “Nest”. Lidia has made her home open to abused or lost ladies to stay for a few months until they can get back on their feet again. Bible studies and financial support are offered to all who stay.
Summer Camp for Widows
After a hard year and hopefully fruitful harvest, the elderly ladies, and some men, come to Kompas Park for a week of relaxation and Christian teaching led by Larisa and a UK team - a fun time for all.
