The night before Myroslava’s first surgery, a neurological procedure known as a Chiari Decompression, I was having a moment reflecting on all that had come to pass in getting this child to Birmingham for these life-saving surgeries. We had been working for almost 2 years to get to this point including a couple of months last summer where we found out the extent of her problems. Although I was simply not going to worry about the details, etc., I did. It was in looking to this verse that it dawned on me (like a ton of bricks) that God knew this all before the beginning of time! He ordained all that has/had happened and all my anxieties were not indicative of too great a faith. But, praise Him for seeing to it!
Myroslava sailed through the first surgery, June 18th. Was discharged in 4 days and recovered quickly and completely. There was one episode of some facial weakness and some other neurological problems around July the 3rd which caused the physicians some concern, but that too passed to complete resolution. So, she was in good shape for the major surgery, her spinal fusion on July 26th.
When she woke up from the anesthesia that evening in the Recovery Room at Children’s Hospital, she was 3 ½ inches taller! Her spine is now much straighter and upon her discharge from the hospital on Monday, the 30th she is now convalescing at the Freses’s home here in Birmingham. Each day is a bit easier for her, with less pain and more mobility. Her next visit with Dr. Killian is August 14th. I anticipate a very good report.
We give special thanks to Dr. Oakes, the neurosurgeon and to Dr. Killian, the pediatric orthopedic specialist for their time, concern, support and medical expertise. Truly, their skills were God-given and utilized by Him. We also want to thank the administration of the Children’s Hospital of Alabama for all the wonderful care and to the staff there as they are gifted in very special ways in caring for the youngest among us.
The list goes on, but one very, very special player in all this is Inna Sinkeyvich. Her love for Her Savior is so evident in the way she has been there for Myroslava, ministering to her needs, even when it was unpleasant. She was in the hospital for each stay, each day and night AND was cheerful all the time to boot! God has blessed her with a unique love for His children. We are the better for being with her these past months.
Myroslava should be going home to Cherkassy sometime early September. Her future is very bright now and her testimony is even brighter. Her incision and straight posture can now be used to simply show people just what kind of God we serve for He was the One who made all this happen!
