Day Care Study Centre

During the past ten years Vera and I have visited the Day Care Study Centre in Cherkassy to oversee and play a part in the refurbishing and equipping of classrooms to better serve the needs of the students who have physical or mental disabilities and their teachers. As required we and the team provide labour for the builder we employ but this year we spent most of our time repainting part of the outside of the building which had become damaged during the recent harsh winter. When we left, this year’s project to refurbish the room used to teach hair dressing was almost complete and the builder and his men have done an excellent job. Over the years we have raised funds to create a sewing room, computer room, a kitchen, hall and toilets among others and we had intended that this would be our last working visit. We need to hear from God about this but I am sure that some of us will return from time to time in order to maintain the friendships established over the years.

We are told that the Centre, which serves 50 young people each week, has gained recognition as the only one in Ukraine apart from a state run facility in Kiev. It has been a pleasure to offer a practical demonstration of God’s love for people and of course we always receive more than we give.

May we take the opportunity to thank all who have supported us in prayer and giving. We thank God for all of you. You have made a difference to the lives of young people who would otherwise have very limited opportunity to reach their potential.

A special thank you too to Taisia and her staff at the Centre, Misha & Leyna who look after us so well, the translators and so many other good friends.

This year we raised well in excess of the £2000 estimated cost of the refurbishment and when the final costs are known we hope to use any surplus to provide a holiday at Kompas Park for youngsters who would otherwise be unable to afford to go.

Our fund raising efforts included a 27.5 mile sponsored walk  through countryside around Tunbridge Wells starting at 6am and completed in 13.5 hours including brief rest stops. It’s not just young people who do such things!

Sweet Success

How do you measure success? No doubt there are many different answers to that question. But when it comes down to how do you manage success at a Bible School, there are two indicators.

Another Twin?

Dear Hope Now,
Thanks be to God for your dedication and for your ministry in Ukraine.

Dear Partner in Hope

Dealing with disappointment, while never easy, says something about who we are. Now there are a group of Ukrainian musicians who are having to do this as they come to terms with the decision of the British Border Agency to refuse them visas for entry to the UK in October to help us with the Silver Jubilee tour.

You Made a difference

I first got to know about Hope Now 20+ years ago at St Helen, Bishopsgate. Working in the  nearby Lloyd’s Building, I would go to their Tuesday lunchtime services.
