As the summer season at Kompas Park draws to a close with the September widows’ and widowers’ camps, this seems a good time to say thank you to our wonderful staff.
When I appointed Alla Kostyunina as director of Kompas Park, I knew it would be in safe hands. After all, Alla had worked at the Southampton Office, so I knew the quality of her dedication to Hope Now and her work ethic. My expectations of her were already high. However, after three seasons in the hot seat I can frankly say that she has exceeded even my highest expectation. Apart from the Pastors’ conference at the beginning of the summer, I have not even been near to Kompas Park because I knew that it was in the best pair of hands. Therefore, I want to say, “Thank you Alla,” and commend her to your support and prayers as she launches into the Autumn of conferences, to keep Kompas Park afloat in the low season.
Likewise, my thanks go out to Frank and Lin Collier, other members of the Kompas Park staff and the many Ukrainian and overseas volunteers, who have made 2010 season the best to date. Frank and Lin are using their retirement to serve as the link between the UK teams and Alla as well as hosts at the Kompas Park guest accommodation. The word I most often hear used to describe them is, ‘mum and dad.’
We are now close to achieving the ambition of making Kompas Park a fully sustainable Ukrainian entity. But before that goal can be achieved there is one part of the development plan that still needs to be completed. We already have completed phases one, two and three.
1. To refurbish the old school building and add on accommodation for overseas volunteers. 2. To add land for sports fields and access to the river. 3. To build an all-purpose hall.
Those who were camping this summer could not fail to be impressed with what God has made possible. Now we must finish by putting in accommodation for the Ukrainian members of staff, in order that Kompas Park may become the centre of excellence we have dreamed of.
If every Partner in Hope were to pray about what they should contribute, over and above their regular giving to the Mission Fund, that goal could be reached by the end of October and give me the satisfaction of knowing that the job is finished. By giving to Kompas Park, you are bringing boys and girls, young people and adults closer to the Kingdom of God. Let’s do it!
Yours in His glorious service. Vic Jackopson MBE Founder and President
P.S. Do you remember Inna Sinkevych, who worked in our Southampton office for two years? Please remember her in your prayers now! She went last year to work as a missionary in La Limonada, Guatemala and very bravely moved alone into the shanty town to be close to the gangs among whom she was working to spread the gospel. Last month, one of her ghetto friends was murdered and gang warfare put her life at risk. She has, reluctantly, had to relocate for her own safety. Please pray for her and her fellow missionaries.
My story starts more than 17 years ago when I first met Vic Jackopson;
this was when he first started coming to Ukraine. Vic was one of the
first foreigners I ever met.
In hindsight, I did not know what I was committing us to. To frame this
statement, let me say that our young family has been immersing
ourselves more deeply into mission opportunities each of the past
several years.
How do you measure success? No doubt there are many different answers to
that question. But when it comes down to how do you manage success at a
Bible School, there are two indicators.
