Sweet Success

How do you measure success? No doubt there are many different answers to that question. But when it comes down to how do you manage success at a Bible School, there are two indicators. The first is when those who have graduated  ask (even plead) for a further course. The second is when churches ministered to by graduates flourish.  Graduates of the Cherkassy Centre for Biblical Studies are certainly meeting these criteria.  As a result the school will have 12 students returning in September who will be the first intake for the new Further Studies Course, currently being written especially for them by our own dedicated teaching staff.

This will mean that we shall only be taking in 12 students for the Foundation Course, which we have been teaching now for 6 years.

This year we have also been able to train 22 men and women as Sunday School Teaching specialists. They are attending Alpha House for three one-week sessions spread over 12 months, with practical and study assignments in between. The enthusiasm of the students has been exceptional. To run this course we have imported specialist staff from outside of the Cherkassy region.

At this year’s Graduation Service, which I attended in May, it was evident that all the students, who have to attain 98% attendance to graduate, had matured to their full potential. All of this has been possible due to your regular and generous giving.  The costs of running the Bible School have increased by £200 a month over the past six years, despite a number of cost cutting measures. To those of you who give regularly, either each month or once a year, a big thank you from staff and students alike. They do not take your generosity for granted.

I pay tribute to all the Bible School staff, who work for longer hours than they are paid for, because of their devotion to their students and their pastoral hearts. Please continue to pray for them as they begin another academic year in September.

My wife Valerie accompanied me on this last trip, and visited a number of churches you have enabled her to help through the “Church Planting and Equipping” ministry of Hope Now. Her stories of Churches and Pastors encouraged through the provision of building materials, heating equipment, Sunday school materials, as well as Pastors helped with transport, are too many to recount, but need mentioning. None of this quiet behind the scenes ministry would have been possible without your gifts, which bring such encouragement to many struggling pastors and churches in the Cherkassy region.

You Made a difference

My story starts more than 17 years ago when I first met Vic Jackopson; this was when he first started coming to Ukraine. Vic was one of the first foreigners I ever met.

A Purposeful Vacation

In hindsight, I did not know what I was committing us to.  To frame this statement, let me say that our young family has been immersing ourselves more deeply into mission opportunities each of the past several years.

Dear Partner in Hope

Dealing with disappointment, while never easy, says something about who we are. Now there are a group of Ukrainian musicians who are having to do this as they come to terms with the decision of the British Border Agency to refuse them visas for entry to the UK in October to help us with the Silver Jubilee tour.
