More than half of all orphans experience homelessness and as many as 10% of the 69,000 registered orphans are likely to commit suicide unless they are better prepared for independent living. Part of the reason for this has been the poor level of education available to most orphans, which leaves them with limited opportunities in the job market. No child left behind is a joint programme between Hope Now and the Cherkassy Institute for Education, based upon Dr Stanley Pogrows, Socratic, Higher Order Thinking Skills learning scheme.
This has now been widely accepted in educational and government circles as an important part of the equasion for improving the standards of achievement among orphaned children. This is now being made available to other nearby oblasts and will eventually be used nationwide.

Fifty children from six internats enjoyed a special summer school at Kompas Park in June 2007, see www.kompaspark.com. This experiment was very successful and is likely to become part of a regular programme.
