Alina Zalygina suffered terrible burns in a house fire when she was just 2 years old. Her alcoholic mother, the cause of the fire, had her parental rights taken away and Alina is now in the Hope Now fostering program. Hope Now has been saving money in the hopes that one day Alina will be able to have surgery for the worst of her scars. Recently, a dancing couple in Cherkassy won 100 thousand hrivnas, ($1,700). The money is now in the fund of a local charitable organization, which is dedicated to giving Alina the best treatment possible. The treatment will last for 18 months and will be carried out at the trauma and orthopedics department of one of Kyiv's best hospitals at a cost of $5,000.
Several years ago Hope Now set up a special fund to save for just such an eventuality and now has enough to start this treatment. Vic Jackopson will meet with leaders of the Cherkassy fund to pursue a good outcome for young Alina.
