Care of sick children
From time to time Hope Now is asked to give specific help to children, some of whom may be suffering the long-term effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
Many patients seek medical opinions from UK health professionals visiting Ukraine with Hope Now and ask for support to obtain treatment. Where financial help can secure a real and lasting benefit patient care has been funded mostly for treatment in Ukraine but occasionally abroad in UK or USA.
Examples include the treatment in Ukraine of kidney failure, leukemia and cancer in children, Pnelketonuria, cleft lip and palate, TB and many other diseases. A teenager with kyphoscoliosis was treated in USA and another with a bone cyst in UK. An orphan, whose face was mauled by a dog, leaving long term scar and eye damage was treated for 5 years in Kyiv, then sent to America for eye surgery.
Hope Now has regularly provided medicines for the Rescue Shelter, the House of Babies and Orphanages throughout the Cherkassy Region. Through a program of providing treatment alarms 40 children have been treated for bedwetting.
