Delivering medical equipment to a district hospital
Hope Now has provided considerable amounts of new and reconditioned medical equipment to many hospitals and departments. These range from baby incubators and complete resuscitation apparatus for newborn babies to specialized equipment to improve skin grafting in the burns department. EKG machines, suction apparatus, an anesthetic machine (with its associated instruments), a diathermy machine, a fiber-optic surgeon's headlight, monitoring apparatus for intensive care, catheters, syringes, suture materials, and others have been supplied.
Complete sets of surgical instruments for cleft lip and palate operations have been supplied and a large investment made in the National Center for cleft lip and palate surgery in Kiev. This hospital is responsible for training all Ukrainian cleft lip and palate surgeons; Hope Now's investment should improve knowledge, skills and techniques in treating these patients through the purchase of better equipment, access to the Internet, and opportunities to attend international training and conferences.
From time to time Hope Now is asked to give specific help to children, some of whom may be suffering the long-term effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
