Making a difference at Kompas Park

It was our privilege to see how wonderfully God blessed the Kompas Park Summer 2008 Program.  Throughout the summer, Kompas Park welcomed over 600 children, teenagers and adults for camps.  The hard work and enthusiasm of the Ukrainian camp counsellors and staff as well as more than sixty volunteers from Britain and the USA ensured that every guest enjoyed a wonderful experience.

We live at Kompas Park from May through to September, working alongside our Ukrainian colleagues and helping the overseas volunteers.  We are thrilled to see God using the gifts, talents and energies of everyone who comes to serve at Kompas Park.  We watch people grow in faith and confidence in God as they give themselves to serving others.  All the camps, children's, teenager's or widow's and widower's give many opportunities to share God's love in very practical and rewarding ways, and for volunteers to make a difference.

The response from the children and others coming to our camps is just as thrilling.  They are excited that God has sent people especially to be with them and to share the good news of Jesus.  We see strong bonds quickly form between volunteers and campers and Lin is ready with the tissues on Saturday mornings as camps finish and reluctant goodbyes are said.

Through the support of Partners in Hope, Kompas Park is expanding and improving.  There is now a new soccer field, bon fire & barbecue area as well as plenty of room for sports and games.  The new storage barn keeps the equipment safe and also has a workshop for the many running repairs necessary through a busy summer.  We trust that 2009 will see the All-Purpose Hall built and in use.

Is God calling you to Kompas Park next summer to be part of this very special place?  Everyone has gifts and skills they can use at Kompas Park.  Come as an individual or as part of a team from your church.  Encourage your youth leader to consider bringing a team - experiencing a different culture, being stretched and learning to depend upon God is a transforming experience for young people.

One of the least of them

When the boy met me in the internat, his first question was "What do you have in your bag?" I had nothing in my bag at that moment...

Historic landmark removed

The statue of Lenin has dominated the main square of Cherkassy for many years and even in the initial foment of the newly independent Ukraine back in the early 1990's, only a few of the Soviet icons were destroyed.
