After gaining impressive results last year, Dominique (see June 09 newsletter), hopes there will be a sponsor to assist him through university.
My name is Dominique Fragosa. I am 21 yrs. old and I have a brother and two sisters. I am an Angolan citizen, but I only lived in war torn Angola for nine years. My family left there to settle in South Africa in search of a better life. This was due to war, poverty and poor education.
Living in South Africa was twice as hard, compared to Angola. At first I was forced to live in a township called Langa. There I witnessed my first crime. We were taken out of the passageway we used to sleep in, and were threatened with a knife, because my father did not have a job and we had no money to pay the rent. They wanted to kill us. They started with the neighbor by burning him alive in the house while he slept. When they tried to come get us, something else grabbed their attention. It was the neighbor's kombi bus. They tried to steal it. In the chaos, we managed to escape. In that moment, my father decided to take us to a place called the Ark.
The Ark is an orphanage. There my parents abandoned us. I lived in the Ark for 5 long, painful years. It is sad knowing that you have someone that brought you into this world and in the end he doesn't even care about you. These are memories of when I was nine years old. In the Ark they gave food and shelter only, but what became of you was nothing to do with anyone. After a long life of suffering in the Ark without parents and any direction in life, not knowing what would become of me, a miracle happened.
Vic Jackopson came to our church and when he saw our need he decided to buy a house. The house was called Rainbow House and we were given the opportunity to live there and to go to high school.
I accepted Jesus in my life when I was 13 yrs. old. From that day on I saw great changes in my life. God has blessed me and my family in many ways. God has always been faithful to me by completing everything He started in me, because He is flawless and perfect. Therefore, I have learnt and am still learning to put my trust in Him every day of my life. I know that He will always keep me safe. I believe He who seeks God will find the greatest treasure in the world.
I finished my secondary education. Then I started working towards my dream. (I am going to be one of the best electrical engineers in the world!) At college I qualified for entrance to Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In college I managed to better my results, attitude, self-discipline and most of all self respect. Now I'm doing my second year at university. It's hard to work, to care for my younger brother and sisters, especially when there is not enough income to cover my studies, but I know God is faithful.
