Homelessness or a future?
Orphans, upon leaving huge impersonal institutional orphanages face an uncertain future, even homelessness, but for some there is a lifeline called Swindon House pre-independence home for girls and Kornah House pre-independence home for boys. Katja wants you to know what a difference it made for her. My name is Katja and I am now 23 years old. Seven years ago, at age 16, I graduated from an orphanage, with no place to go. But then came a lady named Larissa Ivanivna Vovk, who told me about Hope Now’s Christian pre-independence home called Swindon House. She offered me a place in it and invited me to come to Cherkassy to enter medical college. It did not take me long to make a decision as I did not have any other options or opportunities before me.
When I came to Swindon House there were 4 girls already living there. I can’t say that we immediately became friends. There were times of quarrels and reconciliations. We used to go to church together, but I was not quite willing to go to church at that time. Then I began to understand that I learned nothing bad there. Now, it is even interesting for me to read the Bible and to know God’s Scripture.
I often see that house and those people in my dreams. I give thanks, first of all, to God for the opportunity to live at Swindon House. Today, I have my own family. I have a husband and nice son Illia, who is 2 years old. At the moment, I do not go to church, but I pray often. However, I do want to thank you very much for everything I had during my time at Swindon House. Thank you to Larisa Vovk, to Vic Jackopson and to my Hope Now Sponsors. Katja Romanenko Please continue to pray for Katja.
