Partners in Hope may recall that last November we introduced a young lady called Zhenya Chernova, who dreamed of becoming a missionary and wanted to go to university to study journalism. However, tragedy struck. Her father, Vasyl, a believer, was arrested. He had killed a man in self-defense. Imagine the sense of disgrace felt by his wife, his five children, his church, let alone his personal humiliation when, as a respected businessman and former church deacon, he was taken off to prison and incarcerated in a cell with 12 murderers.

Those of you who prayed for him will rejoice that, while there, he was able to witness before his fellow inmates and when he was released on bail to appear before the Supreme Court, all but two of those men were willing to receive a Bible to continue their spiritual journey into faith.
The Supreme Court released him but the prosecutor is appealing against that decision. This process could take as long as five years. In the meantime, Vasyl is happy to be back home with his wife and children.
Things were not easy when he returned to his church. Due to Vasyl's offence, his wife had been excommunicated. Though he made a public repentance in the service, it appeared that the leadership of the church had a contrary view and did not visit him or give any spiritual advice. Consequently, Vasyl felt alone and left the church.
In July, I spent time with Vasyl and his wife, Tatiyana and their 18 year old daughter, Zhenya. As a result of that meeting, Vasyl decided to take the hard road and return to church. Zhenya has successfully finished her first year at Journalism College. She enjoys her studies and is always very grateful for the support she receives from Julia, her Hope Now sponsor. The whole family has asked me to thank Hope Now for helping in their hour of need.
